Work / Set & Production Design / REBELLION
Artist Statement by Alyvia Luong:
This narrative photo series depicts a group of individuals who are tethered to a central leader. They are their leader's vital life force - as denoted by their red and blue “veins" - yet choose to physically sever themselves in order to regain their sovereignty. Through this project, viewers are invited to reflect on the various forms of oppression and control that persist in our current climate. Whether it be political tyranny, social expectations, or the constraints of technology, "Rebellion" challenges us to confront the limits of our existence and to consider the immense power that lies within the act of breaking free. This series is a testament to the indomitable human spirit: the willingness to endure pain, to shed one's own blood, to confront the forces that seek to dominate. Historically, troublemakers who constructively broke the rules have disrupted existing paradigms, inhabiting nearly every facet of society. The art of change would not exist in their absence. "Rebellion" is a stark reminder that to rebel is not merely an option but an essential force for change, progress, and the preservation of individual identity in our increasingly interconnected and controlled world.
